Age Is Inevitable. Suffering Doesn't Have to Be.

Our last stop: Athens, Greece — still smiling, still moving, still full of energy. 🏛️

What Nearly 300,000 Steps Through Europe Taught Me About Healthy Aging

Just a few weeks ago, I shared exactly what I packed for our month-long trip across Europe — my magnets, PEMF devices, supplements, and the wellness habits I never leave home without. You can read that article here: How I Travel Across Europe with Magnets, PEMF & Supplements (My Full Packing List).

Now that I'm writing this on my flight back home, I can finally answer the question that really matters.

Did it make a difference?

Absolutely.

My husband and I spent an entire month celebrating two very special milestones: our 40th wedding anniversary and my 65th birthday. Together, we walked through airports, museums, historic cities, cobblestone streets, castles, archaeological sites, and countless unforgettable places.

In 28 days we walked:

  • nearly 300,000 steps
  • 115.5 miles / 186 km
  • 73 flights of stairs
  • Thousands of memories

And we enjoyed every single moment.

There's something else you should know. Years ago, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. The osteoarthritis didn't surprise me after decades in a physically demanding profession. The rheumatoid arthritis did. However, I chose not to let either diagnosis define what I believed my future could look like.

People often assume that growing older automatically means slowing down, hurting more, and accepting physical limitations as part of life.

I don't believe that's true.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition. Osteoarthritis has genetic and structural components. I developed rheumatoid arthritis in my 50s after what I believe was a combination of factors, including intense stress and other life events. Although my rheumatoid arthritis has remained limited to my hands, it changed how I approached my health. I became even more committed to supporting my body every day through movement, stress management, nutrition, PEMF therapy, static magnets, and other healthy habits.

The goal was never to cure.

The goal has always been to live fully.

And after nearly 300,000 steps across Europe at 65, I'd say that's exactly what I'm doing.

My Philosophy: It's Never Just One Thing

People often ask me what the "secret" is. There isn't one.

It's not one supplement. It's not one PEMF session. It's not one magnet. It's certainly not one healthy meal.

It's the combination of small choices made consistently over many years.

For decades, I've supported my body with:

  • Daily movement and chiropractic care
  • Quality nutrition and targeted supplementation
  • Static magnetic therapy and PEMF
  • Restorative sleep and stress management
  • Meditation and Qigong (at home)

While traveling, I gave myself permission to simply enjoy Europe. Yes — I ate croissants. Yes — I enjoyed pasta. No — I didn't meditate every morning. Vacations are meant to be lived.

When I returned home, I simply resumed my normal routine. That's one of the greatest lessons I've learned over the years:

Consistency matters far more than perfection.

Healthy Aging Begins at the Cellular Level

For many years, I described osteoarthritis as "wear and tear" of the joints. That's what we understood when I was in chiropractic school. Today, we understand much more about aging than we did decades ago — that aging is a gradual accumulation of changes within our cells. Over time, cells become less efficient at producing energy, repairing tissues, and responding to the body's everyday demands. Every joint contains billions of living cells that constantly communicate, adapt, repair, and respond to movement — and they depend on oxygen, nutrients, movement, and healthy bioelectrical communication to perform their jobs.

This growing understanding has encouraged researchers to investigate ways to support the body's natural biological processes, including Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy and static magnetic fields — which is exactly why these therapies have remained an important part of my own wellness routine for decades.

Why I Continue Using Static Magnets and PEMF

People sometimes ask me if I still use magnets after all these years.

My answer is simple.

Every single day.

Not because I'm waiting for pain.

Not because something hurts.

But because supporting my body has become part of my lifestyle.

I don't wait for my phone battery to reach 1% before charging it.

Why would I wait until my body is asking for help?

Whether I'm at home or halfway across the world, I continue supporting my body with the same tools I've trusted for decades.

It's Never Too Early — Or Too Late

One of the greatest misconceptions about aging is believing that decline is inevitable. Yes, birthdays are inevitable. But how we care for ourselves along the way matters.

Every healthy meal. Every walk. Every good night's sleep. Every effort to reduce stress. Every PEMF session. Every magnet you choose to wear. Every positive habit becomes another investment in your future.

I can't promise anyone the same results I've experienced. What I can tell you is this:

After nearly 300,000 steps across Europe at age 65, living with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, I came home even more convinced that taking care of your body is always worth it.

Age is inevitable.
Suffering doesn't always have to be.
